Insurer program questions on tracker and camera data

Before your fleet joins an insurance program that uses tracker, camera or app data, ask these 24 questions in writing: who supplies the device, which data leaves your vehicles, who sees it, how the score works and what happens when you leave.

Free: enter your name and e-mail and we send you the files. Works in Word, Excel, Microsoft 365, Google Docs and Sheets, and LibreOffice.

Only written answers count

Mark each answer as written, verbal, partial, not answered or reported in a public source. The Score sheet counts the written ones per section and lists the key questions still open.

Why ask before you join?

An insurance program that rates driving needs data from the vehicle. That data may come from a device the insurer fits, from the trackers and cameras you already have, or from a phone app. Each choice changes what is installed in your vehicles, what data leaves them, who sees it and what you must tell your drivers.

Most published schemes in the region describe private cars, not fleets. So a fleet manager has to ask. This sheet gives you the questions and a way to compare the answers.

No prices, no premiums

The files hold no prices, premiums or discount amounts. Ask the insurer for the effect on your cover in writing, and do not rely on a figure from a news report.

We found no published wording saying that Gulf insurers require trackers for commercial fleets. Do not assume it: ask your insurer. Every row is reported, so verify it with the insurer or the authority before you rely on it. The main sources are the UAE Central Bank rulebook (https://rulebook.centralbank.ae/node/4246) and trade press reports listed in the workbook.

The device questions matter most for fleets

A fleet that already runs trackers and cameras should not end up with a second box on the same wiring. Ask whether your installed devices can send the data, who installs and removes any new device, how power loss and tamper alerts are treated, and how data gaps from poor signal are read. A gap should never count as bad driving.

Limits

The sheet is not insurance or legal advice. Have your adviser review any data-sharing terms before you sign, and update your driver notice if the insurer receives driver data.

Your devices already hold the data

Tracom makes the ST100 IVMS GPS tracker and the M1N MDVR. Camera options such as DSM/ADAS are confirmed with the Tracom team. Whether an insurer can use their data depends on the insurer, the data fields and the export. Ask us which data your devices record before you answer question B2.

  • Insurer readiness check to see whether your trackers and cameras can give an insurer the data it asks for.
  • Distance report for insurance to turn tracker distance into a report the insurer can read.
  • Video file fingerprint to show a clip was not changed before a claim.
Questions

Insurer program questions, answered

Asked to fit an insurer device? Talk to Tracom.

Do Gulf insurers require trackers for fleets?

Not that we found. We found no published wording that makes trackers a condition of fleet cover. Ask your insurer and get the answer in writing.

Can my existing trackers feed an insurer program?

Sometimes. It depends on the data the insurer needs, the fields your devices record and how the data is exported. That is question B2 in the sheet.

Why do only written answers count?

Because a verbal answer is hard to hold an insurer to at renewal or in a claim. The score counts written answers only, and flags key questions still open.

Are the reported examples current?

Not always. Some are years old and most come from trade press. Each row shows the date and the confidence. Verify it with the insurer before you rely on it.

Do I need to tell my drivers?

Yes. If the insurer receives data about your drivers, your driver notice should say so. Questions A5 and C6 cover consent and notice. Have your adviser check the wording.

What does Tracom do beyond the template?

Tracom makes the devices and can tell you which data they record. Tracom is not an insurer or a broker, does not price cover, and does not take part in any program listed. The sheet works with any device.
