Why do kilometres matter at renewal?
A vehicle that drives less is exposed to the road less. Where the tariff lets the insurer price on kilometres driven, a fleet with clean distance records can ask for that basis. The records have to hold up when the insurer checks them.
The tracker already records distance. This tool turns an export of odometer readings, and GPS distance where you have it, into a table an insurer can read.
What does the UAE motor tariff say?
The rows below come from the Insurance Authority motor tariff decision, now on the Central Bank of the UAE rulebook, and one press report. They are page settings with their source and date.
| Rule | Reference | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| An insurer may base the premium on kilometres driven, at the request of the insured, within the tariff maximum. | Insurance Authority Board Decision 30/2016, Article 2(11) | Official text read |
| A fleet discount of up to 30 % of the minimum premium may apply. | Insurance Authority Board Decision 30/2016, Article 2(5) | Official text read |
| A telematics scheme with up to 10 % additional discount for participating insurers, with the written approval of the insured. | Reported by Middle East Insurance Review, January 2021 | Reported, verify |
Check Board Decision 30/2016 and its amendments (41/2017, 17/2020) on the Central Bank of the UAE rulebook before you rely on any row. The tool never computes a premium or a discount. Ask your insurer or broker how they apply the rule.
How is the table built?
Readings are grouped per vehicle and sorted by date.
What does each flag mean?
- Odometer step downThe reading went back: a replaced cluster, a reset or a typing error.
- Odometer and GPS differMore than your tolerance: check the tyre size, the odometer source and GPS gaps.
- Gap between readingsA long time with no reading. Add a reading or explain it.
- Short periodToo few days to annualise fairly.
- One reading or zero distanceNothing to compare, or the vehicle did not move.
- OutlierFar from the rest of the fleet. It may be right, but the insurer will ask.
What should you do before you send it?
Clear the flags
Fix typing errors and add a note for each replaced odometer.
Pick the period
Use the same twelve months the policy covers, if you can.
Ask the insurer first
Ask how they want the distance shown, and whether they accept tracker data.
Assumptions and limits
- The tool does not compute a premium, a discount or a price.
- It does not say that an insurer will accept the report or tracker data.
- GPS distance from straight lines between positions can read lower than the odometer on curvy roads.
- No insurer requirement for trackers on commercial fleets was found in published texts. The rows quote the tariff only.
