Tracker and camera data residency by country

Your vehicles cross borders, and your tracking data sits on a server somewhere. Tick the countries where you run vehicles and say where the platform is hosted. See where a reported rule keeps data in the country, where a transfer needs a permit, and which questions to put to your platform host. Every rule shows its source and the date it was checked.

Tick every country where your vehicles run and send tracking data. The starting answers are an example only.

Why does the server location matter?

A tracker sends positions, events and sometimes video to a platform. That platform runs on servers in a country, with backups and support teams that may sit in others. Some countries ask for tracking data to stay inside their borders. Others allow transfers with a permit or safeguards. A fleet that runs in several countries can meet more than one rule at once.

What to ask the platform host

  1. Where are the main servers, the backups and the disaster-recovery copies, by country?
  2. Who can open our data remotely, and from which countries?
  3. Can you host inside a given country and show the server address a regulator can check?
  4. Which permit, contract clauses or approval cover data that leaves a country?
  5. How do we export and delete our data when the contract ends?

What the device decides, and what it does not

A tracker sends its data to the server address it is set to. It does not decide where the platform stores it, how long backups are kept or who can open them. Those are platform and hosting choices. When you change hosts, the devices are pointed at the new address, which is a configuration task you can plan with the device maker.

Know what the device sends, and where

Tracom makes the tracking devices. Hosting is a platform choice, but the device decides which data leaves the vehicle and which server address it goes to. Ask Tracom for the data list of your device model and how to point devices at a new server.

  • SCMS portal manages device settings, including server settings, in one place.
  • Real-time SMS adjustments change settings by text message without a workshop visit.
  • Over-the-air updates bring new firmware and configuration to devices in the field.
  • Secure access is a published Tracom feature. Ask how it applies to your model.

Does this tool tell me whether we are compliant?

No. It records reported rules, shows where your hosting may conflict with them and lists questions. Only a legal adviser reading the current official text can answer for your case.

Why is Iraq shown as a conflict?

The official text of the CMC controls asks for tracking databases and servers inside Iraq. If your platform is hosted elsewhere, the matrix marks a conflict. A newer file from May 2026 was not read, so verify it.

Do backups and remote support count?

They can. A backup copy or a support team that opens data from another country may be a transfer. That is why the matrix asks about them separately.

Can we add a country that is not listed?

Yes. Add a row, enter the rule you found and whether you host there. It is labelled as your entry in the report.

What is Tracom's role here?

Tracom makes tracking devices and does not host your data on this page's behalf. The page does not say that any Tracom product or partner meets a rule. Ask Tracom which data a device sends and how to set its server address.
