Why a fill-in guide and not a summary of the rules?

Tracking rules change, differ by country and often by vehicle category. A summary written today can be wrong next quarter. A guide that tells you what to look for, and where, stays useful, because you write down what the current text says and the date you read it.

How to fill it

  1. Choose the countries. Keep the parts for countries where you run vehicles.
  2. Find the body. Use the Who to ask table, open its official page and write the date.
  3. Mark who is covered. Go through six vehicle categories and tick Yes, No or Check.
  4. Write what the text says. Quote the article number in the requirements table and tick Confirmed only when you have read it.
  5. Review. Log the review and set the next date.

The 12 topics to confirm

  • Who must install tracking, and from when.
  • Device, provider or type approval the text asks for.
  • Data to record and how often to send it.
  • Link to an official platform, if any.
  • Where the data must be held.
  • How long records must be kept.
  • SIM cards and numbering.
  • Labels or marking on the vehicle.
  • Driver identification and privacy notice.
  • Cameras and in-cab monitoring.
  • Tampering and offline devices.
  • Penalties written in the text.

Legal rules and client rules

A legal rule applies to everyone in scope. A client rule, such as an oil and gas operator's IVMS standard, is a contract condition. Part 5 of the guide gives you a table for client programs, and you may have to meet both.

Limits of this guide

It is a worksheet. It does not interpret any law, it does not say what applies to you, and it is not a substitute for your legal adviser or for the authority itself.

Tracom makes the devices. Once you know what the text asks for, ask us which fields our devices record, how they update and how they report tampering. We answer in writing.

Questions

Country guide questions, answered

Need a device field list to compare? Talk to Tracom.

Does the guide tell me what the law requires?

No. It tells you what to check and where, and gives tables to write what the official text says.

Why are there no fines or deadlines in it?

We could not verify any figure against the official text. Leaving the cells empty is safer than printing a wrong number.

Why does the UAE part have no leads?

Our research found none we could stand behind. The tables are ready for you to fill from the official sources.

Can I add another country?

Yes. Copy one country part and change the name. The comparison table has a column for Other.

Does it work in Google Docs?

Yes. Upload the .docx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. It also opens in Word, Pages and LibreOffice Writer.

What is Tracom's role here?

Tracom makes the devices. The guide is a neutral worksheet. It says nothing about approvals held by Tracom, its devices or any supplier.
