Device health report from a CSV export: reporting rate and silent units

Load the device list exported from any tracking platform. Get the reporting rate against your target, every silent unit by how long it has been quiet, power cuts, cameras offline and stale GNSS fixes, per site. The file is read in your browser, and the weekly report is one click away.

One row per device, or a message log with many rows per device. Needs a device or plate column and a last-report time. Up to 5 MB and 50,000 rows. The sample is made up: 20 devices in 3 sites.

Use the limits from your contract or tender. The starting values are typical, not a standard.

h

A device with no report for longer than this is silent.

days

Devices silent longer than this go on the weekly not-transmitting list.

%

Share of devices that must report. Use your contract figure.

Ages are measured from this time.

Only when Report time is a time you enter. Format 2026-10-31 08:00, on the same clock as the file.

Year-first dates are always read correctly.

Without a header, column 1 is the device and column 2 the last report.

What is a device health report?

A tracking system is only as good as the devices that report. A device health report lists which units reported recently, which went quiet and for how long, and which report but with a problem: no power, a camera offline or no fresh GNSS fix. Tenders often ask for it at a set interval.

Which columns does the export need?

Columns the tool reads
ColumnHeader names it findsNeeded?
DeviceIMEI, Device, Unit, SerialYes, or a vehicle column
Last reportLast report, Last seen, Last update, Last connectionYes
VehiclePlate, Vehicle, Registration, AssetOptional
SiteSite, Branch, Depot, Group, RegionOptional

PowerExt power V, Power, VoltageOptional
CameraCamera, Camera status, Video, Offline channelsOptional

Arabic headers such as «آخر اتصال», «الجهاز», «اللوحة» and «الفرع» are read too.

How is the reporting rate worked out?

Age = report time - last report time Reporting = age ≤ silent limit Rate = reporting devices / all devices 17 / 20 = 85% against a target of 95% → 2 more devices neededDevices with no time count as silent. A device listed twice counts once, with its latest row.

Worked example

  • The sample has 20 devices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. The latest report in the file is 2026-10-31 08:00.
  • Three devices are silent: one for about 3 days, one for 9.9 days and one that never reported. The rate is 17 / 20 = 85%, below a 95% target.
  • Two of them are over 7 days or never reported, so they go on the weekly not-transmitting list.
  • One device reports at 0.0 V: a power cut. Two cameras are offline. One device reports, but its last fix is 30 hours old.
  • Dammam has the lowest rate, 4 / 5 = 80%, so the field checks start there.

Weekly reports in tracking tenders

Some public tracking tenders ask the contractor for a regular list of devices that have not sent data for a week or more, for device IMEI and SIM records, and for an availability target. This report gives the list and the rate in one file. Use the limits, intervals and target written in your own tender.

Example: a published tracking tender of the Jordanian Ministry of Water and Irrigation asks for a monthly list of devices silent for a week or more, a weekly IMEI and SIM report, and service availability of at least 99.9 % for the SIM connection. Source and date checked 2026-11-03.

What to do with a silent device

  1. Check the platform side first. SIM status, data plan and server settings can silence many devices at once.
  2. Look at the last record. A power cut or low voltage before the silence points at the wiring.
  3. Ask about the vehicle. A vehicle in the workshop, sold or parked for weeks is not a device fault.
  4. Visit with a checklist. Power, ground, fuse, SIM, antenna and the device lamps.
  5. Record the fix and the date. The next weekly report shows whether it held.

Your file and the limits of the tool

  • The file is read in your browser. If you ask for the emailed report, your settings and the text when it is short are sent to our server with the request, so the link can open the same result, and kept for up to 45 days.
  • Files over 5 MB or 50,000 rows are cut, and the page says so.
  • All times are read on one clock. Time zone marks are ignored, which is right for a single export.
  • Cell text that looks like a spreadsheet formula is exported as plain text in the CSV.
  • The limits and the target are typical starting values, not a standard. The result is indicative.

Fewer silent units start at the device

Tracom designs tracking devices with tamper-proof security, over-the-air updates and the SCMS portal for settings, so firmware and settings fixes often need no workshop visit. Ask Tracom which health fields your device model reports, such as power and camera status, and how to export them.

  • Tamper alert ST100 (published). Ask which other health events your model reports.
  • Over-the-air updates fix firmware issues without a visit.
  • Real-time SMS adjustments change a server setting by text message.
  • SCMS portal manages device settings in one place.

Questions about device health reports

Too many silent units? Contact Tracom.

Which platforms does it work with?

Any platform that exports a device list or a message log to CSV with a device column and a last-report time. Rename a header if the tool does not find a column.

What silent limit should I use?

The one in your contract or tender. Without one, 24 hours is a common starting point for vehicles in daily use. Vehicles that park for days need a longer limit.

Does a silent device mean it is broken?

Not necessarily. The vehicle may be parked, in a workshop or out of coverage, or the SIM may be suspended. Check those before a visit.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser. If you ask for the emailed report, your settings and the text when it is short are sent to our server with the request, so the link can reopen the result, and kept for up to 45 days.

What is Tracom's role here?

Tracom makes tracking devices. This report works with any export and does not judge any contract. Which health fields a Tracom device reports depends on the model, so ask Tracom.
