GB per day = channels × Mbps × 3,600 × hours ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000 Days on the device = storage GB × (1 − reserve) ÷ GB per day Days available = larger of (days on the device) and (days on a server archive)Example: 1,000 GB, 2 channels at 1.0 Mbps (typical), 12 hours a day, 10% reserve: 10.8 GB a day, 83 days.
83 days on the device, 120 reported as required

Add a server archive, a larger disk or a lower bitrate, then re-check. The sheet takes the larger of the device and archive days.

Typical value. Replace with your device datasheet value.

What's inside

What's in the Kuwait camera checklist?

Four working sheets and a list sheet. Up to 60 vehicles and 40 footage requests.

  1. 01

    Rules

10 rules as reported, each with authority, decision, effective date, source link, last-checked date and confidence. Values you can change.

  2. 02

    Vehicles

Operator type, age against the limit, camera, views, continuous recording, days available against days required, e-records, footage contact and a result.

  3. 03

    Storage estimate

Up to five camera set-ups: storage, channels, bitrate, hours and reserve give the days each one keeps.

  4. 04

    Footage handover log

Each request, the period asked for, whether it should still be on record, the delivery date and the checksum of the copy.

What changed in Kuwait in 2026?

Two Ministry of Interior decisions were reported in July 2026. Decision 893/2026 on ride-hailing was reported to require in-vehicle surveillance cameras, recordings kept for at least 120 days, electronic records of driver, trip and vehicle, a vehicle no older than 3 years at the start and out of service at 7 years from manufacture, and a 3-month period to comply. Resolution 894/2026 on vehicle rental was reported to require internal cameras in chauffeur-driven rental vehicles, with recordings handed to the authorities on request, vehicle-age limits by vehicle type, and a 3-month grace period.

Reported by secondary sources: verify

These points come from a law firm article (HFW, 16 Jul 2026), a news report (Gulf News, 5 Jul 2026) and the Al-Rai and Al-Jarida newspapers (5 Jul 2026), which print the decision texts. Last checked on 2026-11-03. The Kuwait Al-Youm Gazette could not be reached online. Verify against the current official text in Kuwait Al-Youm before you rely on any value. This checklist is not legal advice.

Is 120 days a storage problem?

Often, yes. A camera recorder overwrites the oldest video when its storage is full. Two channels at a typical 1.0 Mbps for 12 hours a day fill about 10.8 GB a day. A 256 GB card keeps about 21 days, a 1,000 GB disk about 83 days. To reach 120 days you need more storage, a lower bitrate, fewer recording hours, or an archive on a server.

The bitrate is the number that moves the result most, and it depends on the camera, the resolution and the settings. Use your device datasheet value, not the typical one.

When someone asks for footage

  1. Log the request: date, who asked, reference, vehicle and the period.
  2. Check whether the period should still be on record. The log compares its age with the days available for that vehicle.
  3. Export an unaltered copy and keep the original.
  4. Record a checksum of each exported file, and the delivery date.

Limits

The checklist is a working aid built from secondary sources. It does not show that a vehicle, a device or an operator meets the rules, and it is not legal advice. Decision numbers, dates and values may differ from the official text. Ask your legal adviser how the decisions apply to your fleet.

Related Tracom solution

Size the recorder for the days you need

Tracom makes MDVRs that record in-cab and road cameras. How many days a recorder keeps depends on its storage, the bitrate and the hours it records. Tell us the days you need and we will help you size the storage and the archive.

  • SD card endurance estimator to see how long a card lasts at your bitrate.
  • Tracking mandate checker for the tracking rules country by country.
  • Footage request log for a full chain-of-custody record.
  • Camera retention schedule to write the retention into your policy.

Kuwait camera rule questions, answered

Sizing recorders for Kuwait? Talk to Tracom.

Who do these decisions apply to?

As reported: Decision 893/2026 to ride-hailing companies and their drivers, and Resolution 894/2026 to vehicle rental, with internal cameras in chauffeur-driven vehicles. Check the official text for your exact activity.

Is 120 days the rule for rental vehicles too?

Not stated in the sources. The 120 days were reported for ride-hailing and for premises cameras. The rental row is empty on purpose: enter the period from the official text.

Can an SD card keep 120 days?

Rarely, at a normal bitrate. Two channels at a typical 1.0 Mbps for 12 hours a day fill about 10.8 GB a day, so a 256 GB card keeps about 21 days. Use the storage sheet with your own values.

Why is every rule a row I can change?

Because the sources are secondary and rules change. When you read the Gazette text, correct the value and the confidence, and every check in the file follows.

What does Tracom do beyond the template?

Tracom makes the recorders and can help you size storage for the days you need. Tracom does not interpret Kuwaiti law, and the checklist does not show that any vehicle, device or operator meets the rules.
