IVMS threshold settings sheet for oil and gas

Record, for every IVMS event, the value your client requires, the value you set on the fleet and the device setting that applies it. Find where you are looser than the standard before the audit does.

Free: enter your name and email and we send you the file. Works in Excel, Microsoft 365, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc. No macros.
  • 23 events and 6 free rows
  • Looser or stricter, calculated

What is inside the threshold settings sheet?

The values are yours. The grey examples only show the format.

How a row works

From client standard to device setting

Three entries per event. The sheet compares the first two and keeps the third for the technician.

Why record IVMS thresholds in one sheet?

An IVMS raises an alarm only when a value crosses a threshold. If the threshold on the device is looser than the one in your contract, events go unrecorded. If it is much tighter, drivers get false alarms and stop listening. Either way, an auditor will ask where each value came from.

The sheet keeps three things next to each other: what the client requires, what you run, and how it is set on the device.

How to use the sheet

  1. Enter the client value and its source for each event: document, clause and version.
  2. Enter the value you use on the fleet. Use the same unit as the row.
  3. Read the Check column. Fix every row marked looser, or get a written deviation.
  4. Record the device setting. Take the parameter from your device documentation or SCMS, then add the date you verified it.
  5. Log every change. The Change log keeps the old value, the new value and who approved it.

How the Check column decides

Each row has a Looser when setting. For most events a higher value means fewer alarms, so it is looser. For a minimum break, a lower value is looser.

Matches if the fleet value equals the client value Looser if the fleet value moves in the direction of fewer alarms Stricter if it moves the other way Text values, such as a night window, are compared as textExample: seat belt 15 s vs 10 s = looser

Converting g to km/h per second

Some standards give harsh acceleration and braking in g, others in km/h per second. The Conversions sheet does both ways.

km/h per s = g x 9.80665 x 3.6 g = (km/h per s) / 3.6 / 9.806650.3 g = 10.6 km/h per sStandard gravity 9.80665 m/s² and 3.6 km/h per m/s.

Keeping values current

Client standards change with new versions. Add the version to the source column and re-check the sheet when your client issues a new one. Many teams start with higher values and tighten them after a review period. The Change log is where you record that.

The values are yours. Source and date checked.

The grey examples are typical values. They are not requirements and are not taken from any client standard. Tracom does not say that any value in the file matches a client standard. Take client values from your contract and the current version of your client's road safety or IVMS standard. Public guidance exists too, such as IOGP Report 365-12, Implementing and sustaining an in-vehicle monitoring system programme. We read its page at iogp.org, last checked 2026-11-03. Standard gravity 9.80665 m/s² and the mile of 1.609344 km are exact factors in NIST SP 811, checked the same day.

Limits of this sheet

It records and compares values. It does not set anything on a device, and it does not know which events a device supports. Check supported events and parameter names in the device documentation.

  • Advanced configuration files. Apply the same set of values to many devices.
  • Real-time SMS adjustments. Change a setting without a workshop visit.
  • Over-the-air updates. Keep device software current.

Questions

Threshold sheet questions, answered

Need the setting commands for your Tracom devices? Talk to Tracom.

Does the sheet contain my client's thresholds?

No. You enter them. The grey examples are typical values to show the format. They are not requirements.

What do looser and stricter mean?

Looser means fewer alarms than the client value. Stricter means more alarms. Each row has a Looser when setting so the sheet knows which direction is which.

Where do I find my client's values?

In your contract and in your client's road safety or IVMS standard. Use the version your client requires, and write it in the source column.

Can I add my own events?

Yes. There are six free rows at the bottom of the Settings sheet. Fill in the name, unit and Looser when, and the Check column works the same way.

Does the sheet work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets. It also works in Excel and LibreOffice Calc.

What is Tracom's role here?

Tracom makes the devices. The sheet is a record-keeping tool. It does not say that any value meets a standard or that any product is approved.
